Ruth Britton opened The Quilt Box in 2002. Ruth got her love of Quilts, from her mom Mae Robert’s, and both grandma, Ruth Robert’s & Ruth Wilson, both of which she is named after! Her grandma, Ruth Wilson, did machine quilting in the Perkins area for 20+ years. Also her grandma, Ruth Robert’s, did hand quilting for most of her life. Ruth’s mom, Mae, helps us with The Quilt Box, she has a wealth of knowledge of Quilts, and loves helping new, and long time quilters alike. Mae, helps with all areas of our shop, she also teaches quilting classes. Ruth’s, Aunt Glenda Wilson, also provides us with a lot of her sewing, cutting & math skills. She also has a lot of knowledge of a lot of different types of craft’s and loves to share them with others! Ruth’s husband Dwayne, got his love of Quilt’s, from his grandma, Nanny Bell Britton, and his mom, Ila Bee Britton. His grandma Nanny Bell, made wedding quilts for each of her many grandsons, and made wedding dresses, for all of her granddaughters, all the girls had to do was bring her a picture of the dress they wanted and Nanny Bell, could make it. Dwayne, helps all around the store, and provides sewing machine, service & repair, he has a work shop in the basement of our store, he often calls it the Quilt Dungeon. He loves helping others.
Ruth wanted to carry some fabrics to add to her machine quilting business, to be of help to her customers, so we opened in a store front in the 900 block of Main Street in Stillwater, Parking became a real problem for many of our customers but, We wanted to stay around downtown, so now we have moved to 1324 S. Main Street, we found a new home just four blocks south of where we were. We started our little shop with around 200 bolts of fabric, and now have around 800 and growing. We also carry, Toyota, Juki & Necchi Sewing Machines. We also carry Panasonic Vacuum Cleaners.
